  • After collecting your bags at baggage claim, you will then proceed through customs and exit the terminal.  You will pass a hallway full of "timeshare agents" who can be quite aggressive, keep walking until you get outside of the airport.
  • A Sola Summit travel staff member will be located just outside the airport holding a sign with the Sola Salon Summit logo and they will direct you to your transfer vehicle. It is an approximate 15-20 minute transfer from the airport to JW Marriott Cancun.

TRAVELING IN MEXICO

CELL PHONE – Check on your international coverage.
Traveling internationally with a cell phone can be expensive due to roaming usage fees. It is always best to check with your provider regarding international services and be sure to adjust your phone settings accordingly on your personal device.

TIME ZONE - Clocks are set to Eastern Standard Time.
Cancun is on Eastern Standard Time.

WEATHER – Expect warm sunny weather!
Cancun weather boasts year round sunshine making it ideal for a vacation at any time of year. The weather is tropical and humid with temperature ranges from 75° to 91°.

CURRENCY – The Mexican currency is the Peso.
The official currency is the Mexican peso but U.S. dollars are also widely accepted. The hotel can also exchange money.

LANGUAGE – Spanish is the predominate language in Mexico.
The official language spoken in Mexico is Spanish. Most of the locals working in the tourism industry and in Cancun speak English.

ELECTRICITY – Mexico uses the same voltage as the US.
The standard electricity supply is 110 volts and the hotel will support U.S. plugs.  All of your electronics should make the transition without any fuss at all. No need for adapters.

SAFETY – Valuables in your safe and be aware of the surf!
It is suggested that you lock all your valuables in your hotel safe, including your passport.  Only take with you what you need.  It is not necessary to carry your passport with you, it should stay in your safe.

Ocean safety is of the utmost importance when visiting an ocean destination. Don't swim alone, and follow the international signage posted at beaches that alerts swimmers to strong currents, sharp coral, high surf, and dangerous shore breaks.  Check with lifeguards at each beach for current conditions, and if the red flags are up, indicating swimming and surfing are not allowed, don't go in. Waters that look calm on the surface can harbor strong currents and undertows.

WHAT TO PACK – Pack for warm tropical weather.
Mexico is resort casual: sandals, bathing suits, and comfortable, informal clothing are the norm during the day.   Shorts are standard daytime attire, along with a T-shirt or polo shirt.  However, some of the resort restaurants are more dressy, and may require closed toe shoes, collar shirts and long pants for men.

If you are taking prescription medication bring enough to last for the entire trip, plus an additional day or two, and be sure to pack all medications, valuables, and extra glasses in your carry-on bag, not in luggage that will be checked with the airlines. You may want to pack your carry-on with a quick change of clothes, your swimsuit, and any other items you may need before your luggage is delivered to your room.
